ART COLLECTION - ONE HUNDRED HAND MADE VESSELS

The evening will feature a Meet & Greet with the Artist, followed by a special artist talk in which Alejandro Luis Guerra will explore the intricacies of his distinctive artistic style. Guests will also enjoy a light reception following the discussion. Exhibition Highlights Guerra’s Collection of One Hundred Hand-Detailed Vessels is a striking testament to craftsmanship, discipline, and cultural resonance. Each terracotta vessel is meticulously detailed by hand using paint, markers, and fine point pens, blending tradition with contemporary pattern-making. Every piece is one-of-a-kind, reflecting the meditative rhythm, patience, and awareness that define Guerra’s evolving artistic practice.

About the Artist

Alejandro Luis Guerra, known professionally as A. Luis Works, is a visual artist based in Seguin, Texas. Since 2018, his practice has explored imagery rooted in spirituality, mysticism, and transcendence. Beginning with collage, drawing, and design, Guerra’s work has evolved into a deep study of rhythm, composition, and the meditative qualities of repetition.

“My work is about seeking clarity through rearrangement and organization,” Guerra explains. “Each project is an invitation to slow down, to look closer, and to discover harmony within small details.”

Collection of One Hundred Hand-Detailed Vessels marks the fifth installment of Guerra’s ongoing “Pattern” collection, expanding his practice beyond paper into terracotta, ceramic, and cement forms. Most of the first 100 pieces focus on the timeless terracotta pot, elevated into singular works of art through his careful, contemplative detailing.

OUR TOWN SEGUIN
Unidos Por Siempre

The Seguin Public Library will be the first home of “Our Town Seguin,” a new art exhibit that explores Seguin’s past as seen through the eyes of its communities of color.

The exhibit, opening at the library later this month, is made possible through a National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) grant and a partnership between Teatro De Artes De Juan Seguin, the City of Seguin, the Seguin Public Library, and Seguin Main Street. This collaborative effort is one of only three projects in Texas — and just 57 nationwide — to receive NEA funding in 2023.

“The unification of these three profoundly significant art installations has been over two years in the making, and I am overjoyed to witness this vision come to life,” said Dr. Yvonne De La Rosa, Executive Director of Teatro De Artes De Juan Seguin. “When I sat down to write the grant alongside my mother, the late Vickie De La Rosa, we dreamed of these works being brought into the very school district where we both taught, served, and held deep affection. As lifelong educators and devoted community members, we understood the transformative power of young people seeing, learning, and connecting with their collective histories through art.”

Artists representing the Native American/Indigenous, African American, and Mexican American/Tejano communities were selected to create the installations based on the stories of Seguin residents. Community members were invited to share their family histories through pláticas and interviews, which will be archived at the Seguin Public Library for future generations.

The exhibit will feature three installations:

“La Tierra Habla: A Celebration of Mexican American Art, Life, and Enduring Spirit” by Debora Kuetzpal Vasquez

“Roots of Resilience: The African American Experience in Seguin through Art and Legacy” by Howard Crunk

“Echoes of Tradition: Unveiling Indigenous Voice and Visions Tripico of Light” by Ruben Esquivel

Together, these works reflect Seguin’s people and history through the lens of its diverse communities.

We are deeply honored to serve as the inaugural home of the completed Our Town Seguin community project exhibit. Hosting this meaningful display is both a privilege and a celebration of Seguin’s rich cultural heritage, fostering connection, reflection, and pride through the arts. At the library, we strive to provide a welcoming space where every visitor feels a sense of belonging. This exhibit stands as a testament to the transformative power of collaboration and creativity said Silvia Christy, Seguin Public Library Director.

“We’re proud to host Our Town Seguin because it reflects the very heart of our community. Preserving local stories through art strengthens our shared identity and unites us in a truly meaningful way.”

Teatro De Artes De Juan Seguin will host a ribbon cutting for “Our Town Seguin” at the Seguin Public Library on Sunday, November 16, 2025, at 3 p.m. The public is invited to attend the celebration and view the exhibit, which will remain on display through March 26, 2026. This event is partially being funded by Teatro De Artes De Juan Seguin, National Endowment for the Arts, City of Seguin, Seguin Public Library, Seguin Main Street, and the Friends of the Seguin Public Library.

41ST ANNUAL
NOCHE DE GALA: REGRESA A LA TRADICION

Since its inception on January 11, 1986, Teatro De Artes De Juan Seguin has proudly hosted the “Noche De Gala,” a cherished tradition that continues to thrive through community support. The inaugural event was designed to provide a cultural and social evening featuring mariachi music and folklórico dancing, aligning perfectly with Teatro’s core objectives: 1) to foster a deeper understanding of Mexican American culture and people, and 2) to offer a creative and responsible outlet for the Mexican American community in Seguin, Guadalupe County, and surrounding areas to engage in and contribute to local social life.
The first three Noche De Gala events showcased local and professional mariachi and ballet folklórico performers, consistently drawing sold-out crowds, a trend that continues today. Over the past 36 years, we have maintained the quality of our programming by hiring a professional mariachi group to support each competitive singer. This year, we are thrilled to announce that Mariachi Azteca de America will be the featured performing group for our event and our very own Mariachi Juan Seguin community group will also be participating along with a professional duet of Ballet Folklorico dancers. This year we are excited about reviving the original format of the program at the very location it started which is at the Stephen and Mary Birch Texas Theatre.

The 41st Annual Noche De Gala is scheduled for Saturday, March 7, 2025, at 7 PM at the Stephen and Mary Birch Texas Theatre in Seguin, TX. This prestigious evening will be filled with mariachi music and dance. We are looking to honor and gather the community members who helped start our Mariachi program as well as Noche De Gala. Mariachi Azteca de America’s director is a former Mariachi Juan Seguin intern who grew up to start his own professional Mariachi. The majority of their members either had a start as a musicians at the Noche De Gala, competed as a singer at the Noche De Gala, or served as an adjudicator. We want to showcase all those who have been through our program over the last 41 years and celebrate their achievements. This event not only showcases artistic talent but also strengthens community ties, celebrating the rich cultural heritage that defines our region.
