TEATRO PROGRAMS REGISTRATION

Tuesday, August 10 & Wednesday, August 11 5:30pm-7:00pm

Teatro's Cultural Arts Center 921 W. New Braunfels Seguin

Sign up to be a part of the famous Ballet Folklórico De La Rosa and/or the Mariachi Juan Seguin. There is a one time per year per student per program $25 registration fee and monthly tuition starts at $30 a month. Teatro personnel, folklórico artistic directors and musical directors will be on site to answer any and all questions. "El Gentil Dragon Rojo" is a childen's book for 2nd and 3rd graders ages 6 to 8. This cuento is read aloud in both English & Español and will be available to the public to watch at any time.

On this day, TLU students and Teatro families join together for a collective effort in improving the grounds of our Cultural Arts Center. This includes painting, indoor renovations, organizing, and outdoor work that will help elevate the experience of our dancers and the Teatro community as a whole.

Teatro will be celebrating and sharing the amazing stories of local artists, activists, educators, and the numerous contributions Teatro has made to the community via our social media outlets. Join us in learning about the beautiful works of art created by the late Rey Gaytan. His care and compassion for the community shines though his paintings and, with the help of the TLU Library and Arts department, this exhibit will truly be a one-of-a-kind visual experience.

"Leo the Late Bloomer" is written by Robert Krause with pictures by Jose Aruego. This is a childen's book for elementary grades K-5.

COMMEMORATING AND CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF COL. JUAN N. SEGUIN "A TEXAS HERO"

In collaboration with the Seguin Family Historical Society, Teatro De Artes De Juan Seguin invites you to the Juan N. Seguin Poster Exhibit narrated by Albert Seguin Gonzales. The exhibit is housed at Teatro De Artes De Juan Seguin located at 921 W. New Braunfels St. Seguin, TX and includes the miniature bronze statue of Juan N. Seguin created by Erik Christianson. The exhibit is open to the public until December 10, 2021. Teatro hours are Mon, Wed & Thurs 11 AM - 3 PM

The Seguin community is invited to celebrate Dia De Los Muertos with Teatro de Artes de Juan Seguin and TLU’s Center for Mexican American Studies at the Annual Calaveras y Poesia event. We welcome the entire family to come and learn the history of Dia de Los Muertos, take part in a procession inside our center, and hear the reciting of Calaveras (poetry) from current TLU students. This event is free to the public.

Culinary Class With Chef Beto

Join Teatro De Artes De Juan Seguin for a virtual culinary class with Chef Beto and learn how to make a winter squash caldo (soup). As one of the three crops included in the Las Tres Hermanas crops known as good crops to grow together, Squash is a very common feature of the Mexican-American diet. Various squash varieties provide Vitamin A, Vitamin B6, Vitamin C, Potassium and Manganese to one's diet, among other vitamins and minerals. It is also known to promote good blood pressure, blood sugar regulation and bone strength. It can be found in such dishes as Calabacita con Pollo, Empanadas, as well as Caldos or soups. Beto will show the community how to make a soup from squash typically harvested in the Fall season.

A CAPTIVATING LITERARY DAY WITH AUTHOR AND 2015 TEXAS STATE POET LAUREATE

In partnership with the Seguin Public Library, Dr. Tafolla will begin her Captivating Literary Day with a hybrid presentation (online and in person) at the Seguin Public Library. The library will be hosting Dr. Carmen Tafolla for a reading of her latest publications, La Ultima Mariposa at 1:30PM Friday, January 21, 2022. La Ultima Mariposa - The Last Butterfly is a children’s book aimed to teach environmental awareness, and lessons about love and friendship. She will hold a discussion with participating students and conduct a poetry/metaphor writing exercise about the story.

TLU Activity Center

On the evening of Friday, January 21, 2022 6:30PM Teatro will host a unique and special evening with 2015 Texas State Poet Laureate, Dr. Carmen Tafolla at Texas Lutheran University Student Activity Center at Jackson Park at 1000 W. Court St. Seguin, TX 78155. She will perform several pieces that are geared to the young and the young at heart. We invite the community at large to both of these FREE events.

MARIACHI GIRL PLAY

Teatro De Artes De Juan Seguin along with the National Endowment for the Arts is excited to bring Mariachi Girl to the City of Seguin and the surrounding communities! We invite you and your family to come and enjoy a beautifully written story filled with vibrant traditional mariachi music. Mariachi Girl musical play is about a ten-year-old Carmencita who dreams of being a female mariachi singer thus shattering the tradition of male mariachis only. Mariachi Girl is an uplifting bilingual family musical.

General Admission: $10 

Students 1-18 years of age: $8

This year you will be dazzled by performances from Teatro’s very own Mariachi Juan Seguin and Ballet Folklorico De La Rosa, Seguin High School Mariachi Matador, and the world-renowned all-female musicians from Mariachi Las Alteñas de San Antonio, Tejas. Teatro invites everyone in the surrounding community to witness these talented performers take the stage, listen to the lush string sounds and powerful lyrics of traditional mariachi music.
