COMMUNITY BASED PROGRAMS
Teatro incorporates a three prong approach to reach as many community members, students, artists and those interested in learning more about the Mexican American culture. The first approach is our community-based programming that includes: ballet folklórico and mariachi music classes offered weekly that end in a Recital; poetry/prose sessions; cultural and historic lectures; Pachangas; traditional community events (Juan Seguin Memorial ceremonies); Dance Workshops; Sunday in the Park Concert (in collaboration with the City of Seguin Mainstreet Program);
Viva Seguin! Conjunto Festival; and Noche De Gala.
Ballet Folklorico De La Rosa
Teatro De Artes De Juan Seguin sponsors the Ballet Folklórico De La Rosa. The Ballet Folklórico De La Rosa offers the opportunity to learn and study the art of Folklórico dance. Our dance academy reaches out to children, teenagers, and adults giving them a unique opportunity to learn dance at a very inexpensive price. Classes begin in September and are concluded the day of our annual recital which is held the first Friday of May.
Mariachi Juan Seguin
Teatro De Artes De Juan Seguin is committed to promoting Mexican American culture through the arts. Teatro revived the Mariachi program in the Spring of 2012 at the request of several parents and community members. They showed interest in passing down the tradition of mariachi music to their children and Teatro wanted to help make the request a reality. Mariachi classes are held on Tuesdays and the beginners practice from 5:30pm-6:30pm, intermediate practice is from 6:30pm-7:30pm and advance practice from 7:30pm-8:30pm. Student must be 8 years of age or older in order to participate in this program. This program teaches the students music theory, the reading of music, playing of a mariachi instrument but most of all it helps build self-esteem and confidence. Registration to become a member of the Mariachi program is held in August and closes at the end of October.
Noche De Gala
