Her Story
Mrs. De La Rosa was instrumental in the formation of Teatro De Artes De Juan Seguin non-profit cultural arts organization which is a revered cultural, educational, and humanities institution in Seguin, Texas. Teatro recently celebrated its 40th anniversary of serving Seguin and surrounding communities’ youth, adolescents, adults, and seniors through its three pillars of: Community Based, Center Based, and School Based programming. For all 40+ years Vickie volunteered her services and expertise to Teatro in the following capacities: first costume coordinator, first Ballet Folklorico De La Rosa instructor, first program coordinator, first grant writer/administrator, first executive director, and dedicated 41 years to serving all who sought knowledge in learning more about the Mexican American culture through all forms of art and humanities. She brought many artists, many programs, many cultural experiences to the community of Seguin and beyond, this also includes private and public schools, and universities. She cultivated the love of teaching in youth who now serve and served in many capacities within Teatro De Artes De Juan Seguin throughout the United States and abroad. She was also very instrumental in starting the “Grow Your Own” project within Teatro which has developed fierce Mexican American arts administrators. She served on many Boards of Directors for various organizations and was often asked by Texas Commission on the Arts to serve as Advisory Review Panelist. She was revered in the arts community throughout Texas and nationally and remained dedicated to the mission of Teatro: To promote a better understanding of the Mexican American culture through the teaching, study, practice, and performance of the arts.
Vickie was a champion for arts, was an amazing educator and school administrator, and was an advocate for all humanity.

His Story
Homer met the love of his life, Vickie, during their childhood while she was visiting her grandparents in Crystal City, Texas. Their partnership became the foundation of both his personal life and community endeavors. They shared a storybook romance that flourished over 60 years together, including 54 years of marriage.
Together, they raised three daughters, who now carry forward the legacy of the De La Rosa family and Teatro De Artes De Juan Seguin. Homer was a humble servant of God, a quiet leader, and a mentor to many. He was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend. His greatest joys came from supporting his grandchildren at soccer and football games, track meets, band concerts, and cheer/dance clinics—but most of all, lifting weights with his grandsons and granddaughter, Sofia. An award-winning powerlifter in numerous age divisions, he remained committed to fitness, continuing to work out and lift weights well into his 77th year.
Homer was also a mentor beyond his family, offering guidance to young men from all walks of life. His dedication to mentorship began in the 1970s when he served as a boxing coach at the Boys Club in Seguin. Always eager to share wisdom, he took pride in helping shape the next generation.
Professionally, Homer worked as an accountant for the West Point Pepperell Corporation. However, he is best known for co-founding Teatro De Artes De Juan Seguin, a respected cultural, educational, and humanities institution in Seguin, Texas. Alongside his wife, Vickie De La Rosa, and sister-in-law, Maria G. Betancourt, Homer helped establish the organization to ensure that Mexican-American individuals could learn about and cherish their history, culture, and traditions. His contributions played a crucial role in shaping the community’s youth and preserving cultural heritage.
Homer's dedication to Teatro De Artes De Juan Seguin extended far beyond its founding. He volunteered countless hours as the board treasurer, overseeing building maintenance, groundskeeping, and other essential tasks. His unwavering commitment reflected his deep desire to serve his community, remain actively engaged with his children and grandchildren through the organization's programs, and fulfill his wife's vision of cultural preservation.
